Step 1 to a successful YouTube car channel: Advertise channel on Gawker.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 10:48 |

Lesson learned: In order to make it in the YouTube car game, you must grow a beard.

Done! Now to figure how this U-toob works. I think I used it to watch the Chronicles of Narnia rap once.

That was very enjoyable! I appreciated the sociological bent the conversation took on when you guys talked about social media. Brought me back to college.

Getting big on YouTube (TaxTheRich method)
Money
Money
Money
Friends who have money

rule #1: Be interesting, and say interesting things.
rule #2: Get to the point.
#2 is why I haven’t really been able to get into things like podcasts. too often they’re front-loaded with shit like “uh, yeah, huh-huh, welcome to, like, yeah, our podcast or something? I can talking on INTERNET!”
I haven’t watched any of the videos above yet, so this is more a general statement.

How do you launch a successful YouTube Car Guy channel? You post a cleverly hidden marketing post for it on a hugely popular car blog.

It’s weird seeing my hometown in those videos.

And yet all the car talk / car enthusiast YT channels combined can’t compete with the biggest toy unwrapping channel on YT. I still contend the sweet spot for the car enthusiast audience is not on YT - still on TV (40+ year olds - just ask Discovery Networks and the BBC.)

Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.

Totally saw that face and first thought “Chris Harris?”

Forgot to mention: effort, skill, and making the time.

None of which count at all without the powersliding RRs and Ferrari burnouts.

Good thing Tav’s doing YouTube nowadays. It’d be fun if he does those Whoa-Cheap cars he likes to post on Car Buying . And have the boffins over at REACT do some of their work a week after.
And review the ND Miata.
And this animal.
No, wait, it’s this.
And I mean an actual bull, not a Lambo. Or at least an actual dolphin. See how it compares to a horse.

Cool! I’m trying to get started on YouTube myself with the F1600 I’ll be racing this season. Let me know if you want to test drive a formula ford, or just talk racing (or both!).

Skill ???? Those rich douches? No sir.

To me, sponsors are always key. I watch roadkill stuff because it is funny, but it is always like I bought this $500 68 charger, replaced everything except the body (with a little help from our friends at....). Now I’m going to drive it.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 21:35 |

No no no, you hire people with skill and pay them for their effort. All you have to do is show up with the cars.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 21:48 |

No, a beard like hair on your face.
![]() 05/10/2015 at 21:56 |

My best friend Bruce thinks my beard is perfect for me! We chat about her over drinks several times a week.
I mean “it.”

My beard ranks among histories finest, so WHY DON’T I HAVE A SUCCESSFUL CHANNEL???

Yes, I would like that.

Am I one of the few who cant stand Rob Dahm?
![]() 05/11/2015 at 08:43 |

Probably. The guy was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

I keep telling Dave he needs to rebrand... His photography and writing are so good; I honestly think the name of his site might be holding him back some.

I am so sick of clicking on a potentially interesting car review only to find out that its being reviewed by a guy whose driver’s license has been in his wallet for about 3-4 years (YouTube is full of these guys). Sorry, I could care less what you have to say comparing the latest Ferrari to a Lamborghini or your review of the Ford GT because you have little credibility and very limited life experience, which doesn’t equal credibility. I wouldn’t feel comfortable buying a house from a 20 yr old or having a 20 year old dentist for the same reason. Seriously, there are some people who do on line car reviews well, and this is the formula:
1. Have credibility: Age, education, experience, industry experience, something…
2. Be a good communicator: Use good speech, articulate, put thought into your analysis
3. Be Interesting: Make me want to listen to you
4. Invest in good sound, video and editing equipment
I like the majority of what I read on Jalopnik, but man there are way too many automotive journalist wanna-bees /posers out there.

Perhaps but I think there’s something to be said for standing out in the crowd too.
I just realized that I have no clue what a Puppyknuckle is and I’ve never asked him haha.
![]() 05/11/2015 at 11:30 |
|
Recognizable and memorable is good. Just not sure if “Puppyknuckles” is that.
![]() 05/11/2015 at 12:27 |
|
Well maybe if somebody hadn’t taken perhaps the most creative Dave name...
By the way, are you NYC local?
![]() 05/11/2015 at 12:30 |
|
Ha! Hardly the most creative, but I could have chosen something worse, I guess.
No CCC membership for me. I grew up in Missouri and have been in Tulsa the last 10 years.
